Built on St. Charles Avenue in the 1940s as a boarding house, the Audubon Hotel housed transient ship captains, sailors, and locals that worked on the docks of the Missisippi River.
In 1949, it was included on a list of places deemed off limits to members of the military because it was considered to be a seedy, low-life establishment. In 1996, it was purchased and transitioned to an artist-friendly residence, where creatives would stay in exchange for installations, performance art, and other commissions. The downstairs bar and club was open all night and hosted shows and raves until the early aughts.
After over a decade of dormancy, it was reopened as a 30-room hostel and 24-hour bar in 2016. As the lead in the pre-opening team, I was responsible for hiring and training of all staff in addition to daily management of all hotel and bar operations. I managed all social media platforms and worked with local vendors for restaurant pop-ups, parties, and events in the lobby space. In addition to managing all operational procedures at the hostel and bar, I created printed collateral, wayfinding, and signage for public spaces and guest rooms.
